Artificial intelligence and machine learning at TU Dortmund University

TU Dortmund University has a long history of leading research into artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The Chair of Artificial Intelligence was founded back in 1991. Since then, Dortmund has become an internationally renowned scientific center for the research and development of intelligent systems, attracting international experts, innovative companies and national research centers to the heart of the Ruhr region.

AI ecosystem

With the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and the Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security (RC Trust), TU Dortmund University is home to two leading research institutions for the development of powerful, trustworthy and resource-conscious artificial intelligence. Together with sold eligible projects in which researchers from Dortmund actively participate, and in collaboration with innovative companies and startups, they form a vital ecosystem for the research and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Research

At TU Dortmund University, research on artificial intelligence and machine learning is based on the fruitful collaboration of different disciplines with the aim of establishing AI methods, algorithms and applications that are both intelligent and socially responsible. Scientists from different disciplines, from basic computer science to statistics, logistics, philosophy and astrophysics, are working together on this. This holistic approach has established Dortmund as a top international contact point for AI and ML research.

Study programs

The promotion of young talents and aspiring AI experts is at the heart of TU Dortmund University's AI initiative. Educational programs on artificial intelligence and machine learning will therefore be incorporated into all phases of university education. Students can obtain Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science, Data Science and Statistics. Master's students can also specialize in the field of Secure Artificial Intelligence via a designated course of study.
