Bachelor

Proseminar

In the proseminar, literature is to be read in order to familiarize the students with current topics in a special area of computer science. The technical content of the course is mainly determined by the topic of the proseminar. The literature is either given or, following a set topic as a guideline, searched for by the proseminar participants themselves; its contents are prepared and presented by the participants in an independent presentation. An elaboration, which is supposed to show independence, furthermore manifests the independent examination of the topic by the participants and illustrates the ability to present a scientific topic appropriately in writing.

Students should be able to work independently on a simple topic in computer science. They should be able to report on it orally and in writing in their own words, and to engage in independent critical analysis of the topic. Students should be able to master the elementary techniques of literature search in libraries and to cite foreign texts appropriately as such. They should be able to independently design an oral presentation and master elementary presentation techniques. They should be able to critically engage with others' presentations and master techniques of scholarly discussion.

The course usually includes the course credit Presentation Techniques for Introduction to Scholarly Writing and Presentation.

Master

Seminar

In the seminar, recent literature relevant to research is to be read in order to familiarize the students with current approaches in the research of a special field. The content of the course is mainly determined by the topic of the seminar. The literature is either given or, following a set topic as a guideline, searched for by the seminar participants themselves; its contents are prepared and presented by the seminar participants in an independent presentation. An elaboration, which should show a high degree of independence, also manifests the participants' independent examination of the topic and illustrates the ability to present a scientific topic in writing.

Students should be able to present orally and in writing the application of conceptual or theoretical approaches to an object of inquiry and evaluate them independently. They should be proficient in the techniques of scientific discourse in computer science.

The seminar is always offered as a seminar from enterprise computing/service informatics as well.
