We are at DESRIST 2025!

The International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology (DESRIST) is a prestigious conference in information systems, ranked "B" in VHB JOURQUAL 4. In the CORE ranking it was last ranked 2018 as "A". DESRIST 2025 will take place from 02.06.25 to 04.06.25 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Alexander van der Staay and Pauline Speckmann will each present their papers:
van der Staay, A., Fischer, R., Wischnewski, M., Poitz, K. & Janiesch, C. (2025). "Reflective Design Theorizing with User Interviews: A Case Study for AI Energy Labels"
The paper extends the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology and discusses the use of user interviews and grounded theory in extracting design knowledge from completed IT artifacts that were created in a DSR-agnostic way. The methodological contribution is demonstrated using energy labels for AI models, which are intended to simplify the communication of important AI model properties (accuracy, energy consumption, etc.).
Speckmann, P., Nadj, M. & Janiesch, C. (2025). "Interactive Explainable Intelligent Systems: Requirements, Design Principles, and Prototypical Implementation"
This paper presents design principles (DPs) for interactive explainable intelligent systems, which aim in particular to strengthen user agency. Five different user groups are considered and first mappings of relevant reference methods are proposed. Through the instantiation of the principles in a prototype and its subsequent evaluation, valuable practical insights could be gained, which will be further addressed in a second DSR iteration in the future.
We look forward to presenting our research and exchanging ideas with the global information systems community at DESRIST!
