Dortmund research provides impetus for ZEIT column on AI labels

What could a world look like in which cultural products are awarded an "AI-free" seal of approval? A recent ZEIT article explores this question - with a fictitious journey through time to Hamburg in 2036, focusing on the "Human Music Awards", which only recognize works that were created without generative AI. A logo made of heart and brain signals this: This work is based exclusively on biological intelligence.
Our scientific contribution in the Proceedings of the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society 2025 on AI labels and their role in transparency and trust serves as a conceptual hook. Our research at the chair examines how certification and labeling approaches must be designed so that they provide orientation, promote trust and at the same time address a wide range of recipients.
The ZEIT article shows the extent to which the social debate about generative AI has now also reached culture and the creative industries. In addition to considerations on AI labels, the article also discusses the first initiatives on AI-free music.
We are pleased that our research serves as an impulse for this discussion and contributes to actively shaping the future of AI between technological innovation and social responsibility.
